National Tartan Day Concert

The music of North Atlantic Drift follows a centuries-long tradition of the trading of music and musical styles between Ireland, Scotland and the East coast of Canada. Brian Taheny from Sligo, Ireland, Dan MacDonald from Cape Breton Island and Ross Griffiths from the Ontario piping tradition form this particular trading triangle and the product is a multi-instrumental, multi-styled celtic sound that is truly Canadian in its diversity.

Founded in 1927, the Fergus Pipe Band has a long and proud history. For decades, the Fergus Pipe Band has enjoyed a solid reputation as a street band as well as success on the Ontario competition circuit. The band participates in parades both locally in Ontario and elsewhere. A beloved community organization!

Tartan Day is a North American celebration of Scottish heritage on April 6, the date on which the Declaration of Arbroath was signed in 1320. It originated in Canada in the mid-1980s.

Shane Cook & The Woodchippers

Be Here For A While

Shane Cook & The Woodchippers

Shane Cook & The Woodchippers rely on their deep foundation in the traditional music, song and dance of Ontario for the core of their sound, yet also draw on styles as broad as Celtic, folk, roots, bluegrass and swing. Their superbly crafted compositions and arrangements are a modern, exhilarating approach to fiddle tunes, song and dance.

A Canadian and U.S. National fiddle champion, Shane Cook is a multi-instrumentalist who has distinguished himself as a master of the Canadian old-time fiddle tradition. Says multiple Grammy nominee, Claire Lynch: "Shane offers up death-defying, acrobatic fiddle precision, soaring through tunes from his beloved Ontario with impeccable clarity." Joining Shane as a four-member group of multi-instrumentalists, singers and step dancers, The Woodchippers are: Emily Flack (Leahy) on piano, vocals and dance, Joe Phillips (Art of Time Ensemble) on vocals, double bass and guitar, and Kyle Waymouth (five-time national step dance champion) on guitar, tenor banjo and dance.

Shane leads a joyous and diverse musical journey through fresh, original fiddle tunes and songs on Be Here for a While, the debut album from Shane Cook & The Woodchippers. Shane Cook & The Woodchippers first premiered the music of Be Here for a While with The International Symphony Orchestra and has since toured the album across Canada and the US in 2022. The band and album are 2022 Canadian Folk Music Award nominees for Instrumental Group of the Year and Traditional Album of the Year.
